Weekly Catechism:
CHAPTER TWO
I BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST, THE ONLY SON OF GOD
II. CHRIST
436   The word “Christ” comes from the Greek translation of the Hebrew Messiah, which means “anointed.” It became the name proper to Jesus only because he accomplished perfectly the divine mission that “Christ” signifies. In effect, in Israel those consecrated to God for a mission that he gave were anointed in his name. This was the case for kings, for priests and, in rare instances, for prophets.29 This had to be the case all the more so for the Messiah whom God would send to inaugurate his kingdom definitively.30 It was necessary that the Messiah be anointed by the Spirit of the Lord at once as king and priest, and also as prophet.31 Jesus fulfilled the messianic hope of Israel in his threefold office of priest, prophet, and king. STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

“As the Lord spoke to me, the spirit entered me and set me on my feet, and I heard the one who was speaking say to me, ‘Son of man, I am sending you…’”   (Ezekiel 2:2-3)
God asks each of us to do some special work for Him.   He gives us the resources we need to do His work. However, do we listen to God when He calls?  Do we get up on our feet and give our talent to do the work He asks of us? Remember, God doesn’t call the equipped, he equips the called.

FROM OUR ARCHDIOCESE

Project Advance – our annual appeal: Project Advance is the key annual appeal for the Archdiocese of Vancouver. It is crucial to the Church’s mission of providing services that benefit all Catholics and countless others in our Archdiocese. Not only does it provide for our local Church but it strengthens our parishes, helping each parish meet its own unique needs. It also helps support the many different ways we see the face of Jesus in our brothers and sisters – helping the most vulnerable by providing guidance, shelter, food and love to those who are homeless, abused and marginalized. You can donate to this important annual appeal at www.rcav.org/giving or at your parish. Visit rcav.org/project-advance for more information.
