Our Lady of Mercy Parish's Bulletin for September 13, 2015

Standard
24th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Parishioners:

This coming week we will begin the Our Lady of Mercy Novena on Sept 15 at 6 pm. We thank to 9 priests who will celebrate the Novena Masses and please take this opportunity to go to confession. The Feast of Our Lady of Mercy on Sept 24 will begin with Mass at 6 pm then followed with the candle light procession and end with dinner. For those who have not bought the ticket, there are still tickets available. I hope that the dinner will bring us closer together as a family of God. The feast is also the day that that we begin our different events in preparation of our parish 75th anniversary on sept 24, 2016. The next event followed will be the Eucharistic miracles Exhibition on Oct2-5, besides the exhibition, there will be speakers, and adoration. Please come with your family and friends. The Archbishop Miller will open this exhibition with Mass on Friday at 9 am on Oct 2. I hope that all of you will support all the events during this year of preparation

Sincerely in Christ,

Father Nicolas

Stewardship Reflections

“Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”   (Mark 8:34)

When we truly believe that all we have is a gift from God, then we must be willing to give up some things so that we can share our blessings as God intended.  Living a stewardship lifestyle means not only being responsible for our own life, but the lives of others as well.

We cannot be saved by seeking just our own individual salvation. We need to look first to the good of others. – Saint John Chrysostom

Weekly Catechism:

CHAPTER TWO

I BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST, THE ONLY SON OF GOD

III. The Only Son of God

441      In the Old Testament, “son of God” is a title given to the angels, the Chosen People, the children of Israel, and their kings.44 It signifies an adoptive sonship that establishes a relationship of particular intimacy between God and his creature. When the promised Messiah–King is called “son of God,” it does not necessarily imply that he was more than human, according to the literal meaning of these texts. Those who called Jesus “son of God,” as the Messiah of Israel, perhaps meant nothing more than this.45

442      Such is not the case for Simon Peter when he confesses Jesus as “the Christ, the Son of the living God,” for Jesus responds solemnly: “Flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.”46 Similarly Paul will write, regarding his conversion on the road to Damascus, “When he who had set me apart before I was born, and had called me through his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son to me, in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles….”47 “And in the synagogues immediately [Paul] proclaimed Jesus, saying, ‘He is the Son of God.’”48 From the beginning this acknowledgment of Christ’s divine sonship will be the center of the apostolic faith, first professed by Peter as the Church’s foundation.49 (552, 424)
