Our Lady Of Mercy Parish's Bulletin for September 6th, 2015

Standard
23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Parishioners:

I hope you all have a good summer and ready to begin the new school year again.
Let us always begin and end our day with prayer since it is part of our identity as a people of God and I just want to quote what Pope Francis said in his general audience.

“We all know how important prayer is, yet it seems so difficult to find time for it, perhaps we need to ask if we truly love God, as he asks us to, with all our heart, and all our mind and all our strength. For the heart of prayer is the love of God, the source of our life, who constantly ‘caresses’ us with his own love. A heart filled with the love of God can make even a silent thought or a small gesture of devotion a moment of prayer. Through prayer, even in the busiest times, we give time back to God, we find the peace that comes from appreciating the important things, and we encounter the joy of God’s unexpected gifts. Through daily prayer may our homes become, like the house of Martha and Mary, places where Jesus always finds a warm welcome.”

Sincerely in Christ,

Father Nicolas

Stewardship Reflections

“Did not God choose those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom that he promised to those who love him?”    (James 2:5)

What is more important – being rich in faith or rich in possessions?  Society teaches us that possessions are most important.  God teaches a different lesson.  When we are rich in faith we know that material things really do not matter and we are more willing to share what we have.  Stewardship Office, The Archdiocese of St. Louis https://www.archstl.org/stewardship-overview

“Lord, you are always at work to overcome fear in my life.  Help me to live courageously, always ready to encourage the people around me.”

Weekly Catechism:

CHAPTER TWO

I BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST, THE ONLY SON OF GOD

II. Christ

439      Many Jews and even certain Gentiles who shared their hope recognized in Jesus the fundamental attributes of the messianic “Son of David,” promised by God to Israel.38 Jesus accepted his rightful title of Messiah, though with some reserve because it was understood by some of his contemporaries in too human a sense, as essentially political.39 (528-529, 547)

440   Jesus accepted Peter’s profession of faith, which acknowledged him to be the Messiah, by announcing the imminent Passion of the Son of Man.40 He unveiled the authentic content of his messianic kingship both in the transcendent identity of the Son of Man “who came down from heaven,” and in his redemptive mission as the suffering Servant: “The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”41 Hence the true meaning of his kingship is revealed only when he is raised high on the cross.42 Only after his Resurrection will Peter be able to proclaim Jesus’ messianic kingship to the People of God: “Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”43 (552, 550, 445)

SCK LECTURE The Role of Affectivity in Human Formation
Saturday, September 26, 2015: 10 am – 3 pm

SEMINARY OF CHRIST THE KING
34224 DEWDNEY TRUNK ROAD – MISSION, BC – V2V 4J5

Sue Baars, a Catholic psychotherapist from Texas, will be speaking on the role of affectivity in human formation. Affectivity refers to the capacity to be moved with the emotions of love, desire and joy – which make us more deeply ourselves, whether religious or laity. Ms. Baars will outline, in simple terms, the difference between Western culture’s assertion that emotions and feelings are everything and the widespread belief of many Christians that reason and will alone constitute the virtuous life. In contrast, she will discuss the authentic anthropology of St. Tomas Aquinas, who asserted that reason by nature guides the emotions. This will be the attendee’s template for living a virtuous and happy life.
