Our Lady of Mercy Parish’s Bulletin for April 3rd, 2016. * 2nd Sunday of Easter *

Standard
April 3rd, 2016. * 2nd Sunday of Easter *

Dear Parishioners,
As we just celebrated the Easter Sunday, the greatest celebration of our faith and as we are still in this Easter season and the year of mercy and moreover, this Sunday is the Divine Mercy Sunday, so let us be reminded again with the words of Pope Francis “God comes to save us. He finds no better way to do so than to walk with us, living our life, and at the moment of choosing the way to live his life, he didn’t choose a great city of a great empire; he did not choose a princess or a countess for his Mother, an important person; he didn’t choose a luxurious palace…This is how God is among us. If you want to find God, seek him in humility, seek him in poverty, seek him where he is hidden: in the neediest, in the sick, in the hungry, in the imprisoned. And when Jesus preaches life to us he tells us how we will be judged. He will not say to you come with Me because you made so many fine offerings to the Church, you are a benefactor of the Church, come, come to Heaven. No. The entrance to Heaven is not bought with money. He will not say: you are very important. You have studied so much and received so many honours. Come to Heaven. No. Honours do not open the doors to Heaven. What will Jesus say to open the doors of Heaven to us? “I was hungry and you gave me to eat; I was homeless and you gave me a home; I was sick and you visited me; I was in prison and you came to me” (cf. Mt 25:35-36). Jesus exists in humility”.

Sincerely in Christ,
Father Nicolas

Year of Mercy Reflections
“The message of merciful love needs to resound forcefully anew. The world needs this love. The hour has come to bring Christ’s message to everyone: to rulers and the oppressed, to those whose humanity and dignity seem lost…The hour has come when the message of Divine Mercy is able to fill hearts with hope and to become a spark of a new civilization: the civilization of love.”
– St. John Paul the Great

Weekly Catechism:

CHAPTER TWO: I BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST, THE ONLY SON OF GOD

“HE WAS CONCEIVED BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, AND WAS
BORN OF THE VIRGIN MARY”

Paragraph 2. “Conceived by the Power of the Holy Spirit and Born of the Virgin Mary”
The Immaculate Conception

490 To become the mother of the Savior, Mary “was enriched by God with gifts appropriate to such a role.” The angel Gabriel at the moment of the annunciation salutes her as “full of grace.” In fact, in order for Mary to be able to give the free assent of her faith to the announcement of her vocation, it was necessary that she be wholly borne by God’s grace.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS

“He went about doing good and healing all those oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.” (Acts 10:38)
Peace – the first gift of the risen Lord. Just as Jesus sent the apostles out into the world to share His peace and Good News, so too, He sends us. As disciples of Jesus, we are called to be grateful and generous. We should look for opportunities to share His peace with our brothers and sisters not only within our local parish boundaries, but outside of them as well. In giving, you will receive the peace of Christ.

UNDERSTANDING THE LITURGY
The Catholic Mass is the central act of worship in the life of a Catholic, but few are aware of its meaning. While some Catholics may know the prayers and responses said in the liturgy, many do not know their significance or historical development. The true beauty of the Mass is seen when you break it down into its components and explain each of the steps in a way that you might understand more clearly. The course overview of the liturgy explains the Catholic Mass so that you will have a better understanding of what it is, what it does and how it is essential to Christian growth. This course is being offered at our Spring Institute, Saturday, April 9, from 10am-4pm at the John Paul II Pastoral Centre, Vancouver. Cost: $40 (includes snack and lunch). For more info and registration, visit rcav.org/oc-spring.

Please remember your parish when you make your will (estate). Thank You!
