Our Lady of Mercy Parish’s Bulletin for May 22nd, 2016
* The Most Holy Trinity Sunday *

Standard
May 22nd, 2016. * The Most Holy Trinity Sunday *

Dear Parishioners,
As we continue in this year of mercy, using the figure of the father in the parable of prodigal son, Pope Francis said ‘… we know that even in the most difficult moments of our lives, God waits for us and longs to embrace us as his children. Jesus’ words can encourage parents who worry about their children becoming alienated and tempted by all kinds of dangers. They can help priests and catechists who wonder if their work is all in vain. They can even help those in prison, or those who’ve made mistakes and are unable to see any future for themselves’. Explaining how that parable talks about both the prodigal son and his older brother, who also needs to learn to accept the father’s mercy. Pope said ‘Though he has remained at home with his father, his words display no tenderness or thought for anyone but himself. How sad for the father, with one son who went away and the other who was never really close to him! Both the younger son, who is expecting to be punished, and the older son, who expects a reward for his good behavior, are not acting according to God’s love, which transcends both reward and punishment. The two brothers do not speak to each other, they live different lives, but neither of them lives according to the logic of Our Lord. Their logic is overturned by the words of the father, “let us celebrate with a feast, because this son of mine was dead, and has come to life again; he was lost, and has been found”. The greatest joy for the father, is to see his two sons reunited and recognizing each other as brothers. Pope Francis noted that this parable ends without our knowing how the older brother responds to the father’s invitation to celebrate his brother’s return. Jesus is challenging each one of us, he said, to think about how we respond to God’s invitation, to open our hearts to his reconciling love and to become “merciful like the Father”.

Sincerely in Christ,
Father Nicolas

Year of Mercy Reflections
“May the binding promise of the Lord Jesus be fulfilled : from here there must go forth ‘the spark which will prepare the world for his final coming’ (Diary, 1732). This spark needs to be lighted by the grace of God. This fire of mercy needs to be passed on to the world!”
– St. John Paul the Great

Weekly Catechism:

CHAPTER TWO: I BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST, THE ONLY SON OF GOD

“HE WAS CONCEIVED BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, AND WAS BORN OF THE VIRGIN MARY”
Paragraph 2. “Conceived by the Power of the Holy Spirit and Born of the Virgin Mary”.
IN BRIEF

508 From among the descendants of Eve, God chose the Virgin Mary to be the mother of his Son. “Full of grace,” Mary is “the most excellent fruit of redemption” (SC103): from the first instant of her conception, she was totally preserved from the stain of original sin and she remained pure from all personal sin throughout her life.
509 Mary is truly “Mother of God” since she is the mother of the eternal Son of God made man, who is God himself.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS

“But when he comes, the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth…”
— JOHN 16:13

Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to help us know and live the truth. To prepare ourselves, we need to open our hearts to receive this gift before we can give it. Develop a daily prayer routine to ask the Holy Spirit to help guide our thoughts and actions.
