Our Lady of Mercy Parish’s Bulletin for June 12th, 2016
* 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time *

Standard
June 12th, 2016. * 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time *

Dear Parishioners,
As we are celebrating our Parish 75th Anniversary, perhaps each of us should ask ourselves ‘with this length of time of this parish exists, can we see that the spiritual growth in each members especially those who are active in the parish or our spiritual growth is just the same from year after year. Pope Francis helps to find a way to grow spiritually as he said : “The Beatitudes offer believers clear indications to prevent them from getting lost along the path of faith.
If faithful do not follow these directions they may slip and fall on three dangerous steps:
1. Attachment to riches, because I need nothing.
2. Vanity – that all must speak well of me, making me feel important, making too much of a fuss… and I am convinced I am the right as we can see in the parable of the self-righteous Pharisee and the Tax Collector: ‘O God I thank you that I am such a good Catholic, not like my neighbour…’. This happens every day…”
3. Pride, the satiation and the laughter that closes one’s heart”.
So let each of us examine ourselves whether or not we have grown spiritually and make and effort to continue to grow spiritually.

Sincerely in Christ,
Father Nicolas

Year of Mercy Reflections
“We cannot forget the great content, the great intuitions and gifts that have been left to the People of God. And Divine Mercy is one of these. It is a gift which John Paul II gave to us, but which comes from above.”
– Pope Francis

Weekly Catechism:

CHAPTER TWO: I BELIEVE IN JESUS CHRIST, THE ONLY SON OF GOD

ARTICLE 3 : “HE WAS CONCEIVED BY THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, AND WAS BORN OF THE VIRGIN MARY”
Paragraph 3. The Mysteries of Christ’s Life
I. Christ’s Whole Life Is Mystery
514 Many things about Jesus of interest to human curiosity do not figure in the Gospels. Almost nothing is said about his hidden life at Nazareth, and even a great part of his public life is not recounted.172 What is written in the Gospels was set down there “so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name.” 173
515 The Gospels were written by men who were among the first to have the faith 174 and wanted to share it with others. Having known in faith who Jesus is, they could see and make others see the traces of his mystery in all his earthly life. From the swaddling clothes of his birth to the vinegar of his Passion and the shroud of his Resurrection, everything in Jesus’ life was a sign of his mystery.175 His deeds, miracles, and words all revealed that “in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily.”176 His humanity appeared as “sacrament,” that is, the sign and instrument, of his divinity and of the salvation he brings: what was visible in his earthly life leads to the invisible mystery of his divine sonship and redemptive mission.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS

“When I entered your house, you did not give me water for my feet…”
LUKE 7:44

Today’s Gospel calls us to consider how we serve God. Do we consume like the Pharisee who simply reclines at the table and expects to be served? Or, do we contribute like the woman who kneels before Jesus and washes His feet? Every day we must make a choice. Take or give? Consume or contribute? Recline or serve?

FATHER’S DAY IS PRO-LIFE SUNDAY
Voices of the vulnerable are silenced every day by the culture around us. Never before has life in our nation been as vulnerable as it is now. We need to challenge those who silence pro-life Canadians who are courageously fighting for the voiceless. This Father’s Day is Pro-Life Sunday and we need you to stand with us. There will be a special collection Sunday, June 19, to help support the life-affirming work of pro-life groups in our diocese. Please give generously. Envelopes will be available at your parish on Sunday, or give online at rcav.org/prolife.
