Encounter with my Lord…
Encounter with my Lord…
“Lydia” (not her real name) felt God’s joyful invitation to come to mass even before she started RCIA. After she was baptized, her two children and eventually her fiancé’ also became Catholics. Lydia continues to volunteer with RCIA.
I got my first thought of becoming a Catholic after having contact with many Catholic friends who are always humble and kind. I often pass by OLM parish and the signage says “come celebrate with us”, that’s when I got very curious and wondered what is there to celebrate about? I felt I must go find out, that is when I decided to attend masses and after some time I finally decided to join RCIA. There we had weekly meet ups to discuss the Catholic faith. Later I realized I was like Zacchaeus who was invited by Jesus. I received the sacraments at Easter time and finally, happily now a part of the Catholic family. After my baptism I realized that our weekly meeting became a part of me and I didn’t feel complete without it. That’s why I decided to continue in RCIA as a volunteer.
My two kids who were also baptized and I promised to raise them as Catholics. I made sure they don’t go to sleep without our nightly “Guardian Angel” prayers. My older son knew the words of the prayer even before he started talking. My fiancé felt very left out seeing the three of us praying together as a nightly family tradition and he was not part of it. He has made a very important decision to follow in my footsteps to join RCIA. I have to say that his journey was not easy but he overcame a lot of struggles. With prayers and God’s grace, he persevered and he was baptized this past Ester Vigil. We are getting married in the Catholic Church and with God’s blessings I have very strong faith that our family with be stronger together.

“I am praying for them…” – JOHN 17: 9
Prayer is the foundation of our Faith and the foundation of Stewardship. Pray in good times and in bad. Prayer is always the first best option in any situation, not just the last resort. Pray for friends and family and for those that don’t treat you very well. Pray to give praise, to thank and to ask God for help. Pray to see what God wants you to do with the gifts He has given you.

Project Advance is our annual appeal that enables the pastoral work and spiritual mission of our local Church to flourish. Your gift to Project Advance helps us meet the material and spiritual need of our Church and parishes. This year’s appeal focuses on the message One Faith. One Church. One Family. Our faith community is expansive and despite our geographical locations and our cultural diversity, which is to be celebrated, we are all united by our faith; we all belong to one Church. View this year’s video or find out more about the works supported by Project Advance at www.projectadvance.ca
Your gift to Project Advance last year in the parish has been used to pay the changing of the part of parish school library wall. This year, our parish goal is $200,000. We will start saving for the building of our future Parish Centre and Rectory. Together let us continue to live gratefully and give generously. Our Project Advance Volunteers will be available after each Mass to accept your pledge/donation.
To date we have received a total donations of $19,454 from 330 parishioners.
