“You shall not carve idols for yourselves in the shape of anything…” – Exodus 20:4
How many “gods” do you put before God? “Idols” do not always take the shape of physical things, things we can touch and feel. Those are easy to recognize. Many times they take the form of things we cannot touch and are much harder to spot like pride, power, ego, time, comfort or health.

Encounter with my Lord…
Initially, I desired to be in the RCIA journey to receive sacrament of baptism for I was not baptized. In the past years, I had attended morning and other masses, adoration prayers, and Christmas parties at Our Lady of Mercy, and kept coming to church without receiving any particular guidance or attention. Until in 2016’s Christmas party, God allowed me to have more opportunities in any parts of my life to happen from Our Lady of Mercy: a romantic relationship and a spiritual journey. This romantic relationship has foundation in catholic faith. Through this relationship with another catholic believer, then later (this year) I was introduced to more catholic believers, who are Our Lady of Mercy parishioners. I inquired information about RCIA and registration, and join the RCIA journey. My RCIA journey began from there. My expectations from RCIA are learning something and being welcomed in each session. I received the weekly topics and got myself into discussions with other RCIA inquirers and team members. I learn other inquirer’s and team members’ catholic faith journeys. Jesus Christ, Himself, invites me and others to come and to know Him and His church. Therefore, my expectations were met. Each weekly meeting invited me to open my heart and mind to God. I listen to, sing, read, speak, and watch presentations hungrily. Every day I am thirsty, and God provides the water for me to drink. The book “Life in Christ: A Catholic Catechism for Adults” with assigned reading chapters, which RCIA recommend to read, can change or improve a person’s life and spiritual experiences. God has allowed me to change first. When my mind and heart are close to God, then I am receiving those closest to me whoever they are. Whenever there is a way for me and for God to work in a person’s life, then I will put my faith on Jesus Christ. My relationship with God can be eternal through his Son, Jesus Christ. Through His will, God created me in His image. God called me to respond to the life I have been given to. God allows pain, suffering, sacrifice, trust, emotions, temptations, and anything to be in a person’s life. God gives freedom to a person’s life to choose. God can be a protection, a saviour, a comfort, and anything a person’s life truly needs. God possesses all good things, none are evil. God is love. I am responding to His call by opening myself to any situations and believing God is with me. My expectations of Him at this moment are: to be with me during and after RCIA journey; and to persuade me to be whom I can become, when God knows my strengths and limits.
