WORLD MISSION MONTH
Sunday, October 7, 2018

“Go! Make disciples of all nations.” (Mt.28:19) These words – the imperative mission of Christ – call each baptized Catholic to action. The Church has a lasting mission to perform in this world, a mission that is ever more apparent, and the need for it is ever more urgent. In fact, mission isn’t something the Church does. It is what the Church is!

This year, World Mission Sunday is on October 21. This is a worldwide collection for the missionary Church that offers emer-gency aid when disaster strikes, cares for refugees in war-torn countries, provides rural health clinics and transportation for Priest, catechists, religious and lay pastoral workers. It offers financial support for the daily needs of all missionaries. Please pray for the missions and be generous on World Mission Sunday.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS

“So out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name.” GENESIS 2:19

Stewardship Awareness Sunday
The creation story reminds us of two important points. First, since the start, God has put the entire world into our care. Second, stewardship has been around since the beginning of mankind, it isn’t something recently invented by the Church. Just as past generations built our Church, it is now our responsibility to continue to nurture and develop these gifts for future generations.

WEEKLY CATECHISM:

CHAPTER THREE: I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
Article 8 I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT

IV. The Spirit of Christ in the Fullness of Time

“Rejoice, you who are full of grace”

723 In Mary, the Holy Spirit fulfills the plan of the Father’s loving goodness. Through the Holy Spirit, the Virgin conceives and gives birth to the Son of God. By the Holy Spirit’s power and her faith, her virginity became uniquely fruitful.105

724 In Mary, the Holy Spirit manifests the Son of the Father, now be-come the Son of the Virgin. She is the burning bush of the definitive theophany. Filled with the Holy Spirit she makes the Word visible in the humility of his flesh. It is to the poor and the first representatives of the gentiles that she makes him known.106

725 Finally, through Mary, the Holy Spirit begins to bring men, the objects of God’s merciful love,107 into communion with Christ. And the humble are always the first to accept him: shepherds, magi, Sim-eon and Anna, the bride and groom at Cana, and the first disciples.

726 At the end of this mission of the Spirit, Mary became the Wom-an, the new Eve (“mother of the living”), the mother of the “whole Christ.”108 As such, she was present with the Twelve, who “with one accord devoted themselves to prayer,”109 at the dawn of the “end time” which the Spirit was to inaugurate on the morning of Pentecost with the manifestation of the Church.

Christ Jesus

727 The entire mission of the Son and the Holy Spirit, in the fullness of time, is contained in this: that the Son is the one anointed by the Father’s Spirit since his Incarnation- Jesus is the Christ, the Messiah. Everything in the second chapter of the Creed is to be read in this light. Christ’s whole work is in fact a joint mission of the Son and the Holy Spirit. Here, we shall mention only what has to do with Jesus’ promise of the Holy Spirit and the gift of him by the glorified Lord.

728 Jesus does not reveal the Holy Spirit fully, until he himself has been glorified through his Death and Resurrection. Nevertheless, little by little he alludes to him even in his teaching of the multitudes, as when he reveals that his own flesh will be food for the life of the world.110 He also alludes to the Spirit in speaking to Nicodemus,111 to the Samaritan woman,112 and to those who take part in the feast of Tabernacles.113 To his disciples he speaks openly of the Spirit in con-nection with prayer114 and with the witness they will have to bear.115

729 Only when the hour has arrived for his glorification does Jesus promise the coming of the Holy Spirit, since his Death and Resurrection will fulfill the promise made to the fathers.116 The Spirit of truth, the other Paraclete, will be given by the Father in answer to Jesus’ prayer; he will be sent by the Father in Jesus’ name; and Jesus will send him from the Father’s side, since he comes from the Father. The Holy Spirit will come and we shall know him; he will be with us for ever; he will remain with us. The Spirit will teach us everything, re-mind us of all that Christ said to us and bear witness to him. The Holy Spirit will lead us into all truth and will glorify Christ. He will prove the world wrong about sin, righteousness, and judgment.

“YOU’RE NOT THE BOSS OF ME”

Understanding Resistance in Children and / or Adolescents
Children are naturally inclined to resist and oppose when feeling pressed upon or controlled. Although the reaction is quite normal and even healthy in certain circumstances, its manifestations and impact can be highly disruptive and disturbing, making life difficult for parents and teachers. Counterwill can take many forms from negativism to noncompliance depending upon the age and personality of the child or teen. We will discuss the meaning of this deep-rooted instinct as well as the dynamics that control its existence and expression. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at 6 p.m. at St. Anthony, West Vancouver. https://rcav.org/parenting/
