PASTOR’S CHRISTMAS MESSAGE
As we celebrate the birthday of our Lord Jesus, we come to realize how much our Lord Jesus honors our humanity and He is willing to be born as a human like us and not only that through His examples we as His followers try to follow His commandments and imitate His examples. As your pastor I have witnessed more and more among you have done it and I thank you for your efforts as St. Paul said to the Ephesians
“God chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before Him in love. He destined us for adoption as His children through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of His glorious grace that He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved” (1:4-6).
May the Lord Jesus on His birthday grant His graces upon you as you all continue to strife to follow and imitate Him in serving Our Lady of Mercy Parish joyfully. Have a great Christmas celebration with your family, relatives and friends.
Sincerely in Christ,
OUR PARISH OFFICE IS CLOSED : from December 26th 2018 to January 2nd 2019. Will be open on Thursday, January 3rd 2019.
A CHRISTMAS MESSAGE FROM ARCHBISHOP
Christmas celebrations enable us to remember that God has not forgotten us and that he comes to us in our daily lives. He came among us 2,000 years ago, born in Bethlehem. But he also comes to be with us today in every situation of our life, the good times and the bad. He dwells among us; he lives with us and within us. As we journey toward Christmas, the Church takes us by the hand and helps us to experience once again the joyful expectation of the Lord’s coming to his people long ago, and to us today. WORLD MISSION MONTH
Sunday, October 21, 2018
Today, on World Mission Sunday, we are invited to celebrate our mission’s vocation, to pray for the people who are actively engaged in mission, and to generously contribute to our worldwide mission solidarity fund through this collection. Your gift on this day helps:
• People in remote villages, towns and cities, through the witness and work of missionaries and local priests;
• Children, the elderly, refugees, the sick, and orphans through the services of religious Sisters and Brothers;
• To bring the Gospel to the poorest of our human family;
• Catechists proclaim the message of hope and peace that only Christ can give. Please offer your prayers for the work of the Church in the missions today and be as generous as you can on World Mission Sunday.

“For behold, when the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the babe in my womb leaped for joy.” LUKE 1:44
When you hear the Scripture readings and Gospel reading each Sunday, do you “leap for joy?” If not, don’t blame the lecturer or priest, rather look inside yourself. Do you prepare for Mass each week or do you just show up and expect to be entertained? We are called to be active participants, not passive bystanders.

CHAPTER THREE: I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
Article 9 I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY CATHOLIC CHURCH
Paragraph 1 The Church in God’s Plan
III. The Mystery of The Church
The universal Sacrament of Salvation
776 As sacrament, the Church is Christ’s instrument. “She is taken up by him also as the instrument for the salvation of all,” “the universal sacrament of salvation,” by which Christ is “at once manifesting and actualizing the mystery of God’s love for men.”199 The Church “is the visible plan of God’s love for humanity,” because God desires “that the whole human race may become one People of God, form one Body of Christ, and be built up into one temple of the Holy Spirit.”200
777 The word “Church” means “convocation.” It designates the assembly of those whom God’s Word “convokes,” i.e., gathers together to form the People of God, and who themselves, nourished with the Body of Christ, become the Body of Christ.
778 The Church is both the means and the goal of God’s plan: prefigured in creation, prepared for in the Old Covenant, founded by the words and actions of Jesus Christ, fulfilled by his redeeming cross and his Resurrection, the Church has been manifested as the mystery of salvation by the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. She will be perfected in the glory of heaven as the assembly of all the redeemed of the earth (cf. Rev 14:4).
779 The Church is both visible and spiritual, a hierarchical society and the Mystical Body of Christ. She is one, yet formed of two components, human and divine. That is her mystery, which only faith can accept.
780 The Church in this world is the sacrament of salvation, the sign and the instrument of the communion of God and men.

IGNATIAN SPIRITUAL EXERCISES
OLM is hosting the Spiritual Exercises for the year 2019-2020. The retreat lasts almost 9 months and is individually directed (each participant has their own personal Retreat Director; so each person’s retreat is personalized & unique). It is Church approved, originally by Pope Paul III in 1548 (as part of the Catholic Reformation), composed by St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits. It is a compilation of classical Catholic spirituality including the “devotio moderna”. This Retreat focuses on facilitating one’s actual Experience of God – and a practicum of Discernment involving finding the Lord in the deepest areas of one’s soul. By praying through one’s own life and the life of Christ, one experiences God’s Presence, Healing, and Call to salvation and vocation, including any major life decisions. Application deadline: Jan 15, 2019. Registration fee: $100 (bursaries available). For more info: Thelma 778.789-4238 or website http://jsav.ca/ or to apply [email protected]
