St. Paul tells us that God has blessed each of us for a reason. How has God blessed you? Are you using your gifts according to God’s plan? How are you helping to build God’s kingdom here on earth? Remember that if you don’t do the work God
planned for you, no one else can do it. Live the life God has intended for you, feel His love, peace and joy!

CHAPTER THREE: I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY SPIRIT
Article 9 I BELIEVE IN THE HOLY CATHOLIC CHURCH
Paragraph 2 The Church—People of God, Body of Christ, Temple of the Holy Spirit
II. The Church—Body of Christ
“Christ is the Head of this Body”
792 Christ “is the head of the body, the Church.”225 He is the principle of creation and redemption. Raised to the Father’s glory, “in everything he [is] preeminent,”226 especially in the Church, through whom he
extends his reign over all things.
793 Christ unites us with his Passover: all his members must strive to resemble him, “until Christ be formed” in them.227 “For this reason we . . . are taken up into the mysteries of his life, . . . associated with his
sufferings as the body with its head, suffering with him, that with him we may be glorified.”228
794 Christ provides for our growth: to make us grow toward him, our head,229 he provides in his Body, the Church, the gifts and assistance by which we help one another along the way of salvation.
795 Christ and his Church thus together make up the “whole Christ” (Christus totus). The Church is one with Christ. The saints are acutely aware of this unity:
Let us rejoice then and give thanks that we have become not only Christians, but Christ himself. Do you understand and grasp, brethren, God’s grace toward us? Marvel and rejoice: we have become Christ. For if he is the head, we are the members; he and we together are the whole man.. . . The fullness of Christ then is the head and the members. But what does “head and members” mean? Christ and the Church.230
Our redeemer has shown himself to be one person with the holy Church whom he has taken to himself.231 Head and members form as it were one and the same mystical person.232
A reply of St. Joan of Arc to her judges sums up the faith of the holy doctors and the good sense of the believer: “About Jesus Christ and the Church, I simply know they’re just one thing, and we shouldn’t complicate
BOOK REVIEW BY LITO
This new column is contributed by Lito Aurellado, one of RCIA catechists in our parish. This time he summarized Hauntings, Possessions, and Exorcisms written by Adam C. Blai.
Around the 5th century before Christ, a Chinese named Sun Tzu wrote the book The Art of War, which contained military strategy and tactics. One of Sun Tzu’s famous advice is, “Know your enemy.” The devil is real as proven by accounts of Jesus doing battle against the devil in the Gospels. How do we fight an enemy we cannot see?
In spiritual warfare, we need to realize that the devil is real, that it exists among us. If we fail to recognize the reality of the devil’s existence, then the battle against it is already lost. But everything is not lost yet. We should take comfort in the fact that Jesus has overcome the devil and secured victory for us.
John writes in 1 John 5:18-20, “…the one who was born of God protects them, and the evil one does not touch them. 19 We know that we are God’s children, and that the whole world lies under the power of the evil one. 20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ.” (NRSV).
Adam Blai is a theological adviser or consultant of religious demonology and exorcism for the Pittsburgh diocese. In 2017 he published the book, HAUNTINGS, POSSESSIONS, AND EXORCISMS. In this book, Adam Blai shares with us advice and information he
has learned through over 10 years of involvement in helping the Church’s effort in demonic possessions and exorcisms.
In his prologue to the book Blai writes,
“As we pray for any exorcism, we beg for mercy – partly because we choose to fight an enemy we cannot really understand… because it is only God who can restrain and limit the demon’s strength and keep us alive. We beg for mercy so that our spiritual vulnerability will be protected from the attack of the enemy.”
